Driver escapes from blazing car

A DRIVER suffered minor injuries after his car crashed and caught fire.

He was given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital this morning.

The driver, who has not been named, is believed to have lost control of his Fiat 500 on a bend in Fulfords Road, Itchingfield, near Horsham.

He escaped from the wreckage after the car left the road and crashed into a ditch before catching fire just before 10am.

A fire crew from from Horsham put the blaze out using two hose reels a short time later.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The driver suffered superficial injuries and was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, for treatment.”
