Repeat offenders commit up to half of all Sussex crime

Just a few hundred people are committing as much as half of all the crime in Sussex.

Figures obtained by The Argus show that 282 prolific offenders who repeatedly steal, take drugs and commit antisocial behaviour cause the most distress to residents.

Sussex Police said the majority of repeat criminal activity came from offenders hooked on drugs.

The Government estimates the worst 10% of the active offender population are responsible for half of all crime but the latest Home Office figures show that the number of prolific and priority offenders (PPO) in Sussex has been steadily dropping.

Police said their scheme to tackle the causes of offending had led to a steady drop from 323 people identified as the worst career criminals last spring to just 282 last month.

It is thought that up to 40 career criminals in each of the county's major towns and cities are responsible for the biggest nuisance to residents but officers say weaning them off drugs is reducing the crime rate.

well DUH they're all drug addicts and can't help themselves.
And locking them up does no good as our corrupt prisoner service employees supply them with all the drugs they could want inside.
security word: EPIC-FAIL

"And locking them up does no good as our corrupt prisoner service employees supply them with all the drugs they could want inside."

But if they are locked up FOR GOOD it protects the majority law abiding hard workers from these vermin. These criminals, whether drug addicted criminals or not, should have NO rights. Prison should = misery for them since they cause misery to their victims.

I would like to know how "taking drugs" causes distress to other people. Some people have no tolerance or are too thin-skinned.

The answer seems to be that they should be locked up for longer every time they reoffend and eventually not let out again.

No, they should be locked up for normal sentences, but not sold drugs by bent prison staff! Then they won't come out and immediately re-offend to feed their habits.

Well if you are a parent or a law abiding citizen, you hope to enjoy the neighbourhood you live, you do not want to see drug addicts taking drugs, prostitutes street walking to pay for their drugs, people spitting, kicking dogs etc. You only have one life and would hope for it to be as pleasant as possible

Stan,

From bibbles daily and senseless rants on this forum he appears to be the LEAST tolerant person I know.

People like bibble believe we should have a society that allows everyone to do exactly as they please and thus all sink to his gutter level.

Any attempt to control unacceptable behaviour makes it a police state in his eyes.

Like so many that try to justify their unacceptable behaviour he has no perception or in-depth understanding of the subjects he comments on.

The drug 'problem' is a difficult one and DOES do a lot of harm to many - not just the drug-takers.

It is not being addressed properly but until it is they should take persistent users off the street to protect decent people.

And they should address immediately the issue of mobile phones, drugs and many others 'valuables' getting into prisons.

What a pity that bibble does not have a daily rant about the prison service and its failings in this regard.

Are you stark raving mad?

Are you blind?

Are you completely uninformed?

Ever wondered where drug money goes? What it funds?

You really are a waste of space.

You haven't answered the question. Taking illegal drugs is really no different from taking legal drugs. Why does one cause distress and the other not?
.
Live and let live. It means don't impose your so-called values on other people.

Most drug addicts turn to crime to feed their expensive habit. That is the core point of this story.

Ambassador, thank god that there are sensible people out there like us who see the wood for the trees. I echo every word you make. Well put.

So take them off the streets give them drugs and...hey ho everybody happy. They're very happy taking drugs-not out stealing (the publics happy)-no money for the drug barons(not happy). As drugs are so easy to get and being locked up doesn't act as a deterrent any more maybe we should be looking at other ways to cut societies losses.

Will you be tollerant of the drug taker who decides to burgle your property and then sell your electicals for a fraction of their worth so that they can get their next fix?

Or are you likely to be thin skinned at that point as well?

Once again you're trying to be clever with words assuming a lot of us are idiots. You avoid the real issue of where the money for the taking of drugs comes from. And you do that because you know you have no defence for that side of the arguement.

(Security word base-weak, which really describes your arguement!)

Is Wibble a troll- talking complete rubbish just to get a reaction OR is he getting silly on heavy use of I 'm sure LEGAL drugs ?

It's a statistical certainty that "most" participants of any activity will be those who have done it before. There simply aren't enough new people in the world for the majority to be a first-timer.

Of course, if most crimes weren't by repeat offenders the papers would be howling about our innocent youth turning to crime, since "most" crime is caused by first-time offenders.
