Five women waited more than 35 years to watch the man who repeatedly abused them as children sent to jail.
Gordon Redmond repeatedly sexually abused and raped the girls, who were aged between ten and 15, over a period of 20 years in Brighton.
The pensioner was told yesterday he may spend the rest of his life in prison.
Redmond's years of abuse were only revealed when one victim he raped finally summoned the strength to call the police in 2007 but it took three years to track down the other victims and build the case against their attacker.
His victim was first assaulted when she was ten but kept silent about what had happened until she was in her late 40s.
Police were then able to track down a second girl who Redmond had raped when she was 12 and another three women who Redmond repeatedly sexually abused during the 1960s and 1970s when they were aged between ten and 15.
Redmond, 71, was yesterday found guilty of 21 counts of rape and indecent assault and one count of actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 19 years in jail.
Brighton rape charity Survivors' Network said the case would provide hope for other victims.
