More Brighton and Hove land to be used for growing food

A newW food growing project has been unveiled.

Brighton and Hove City Council is proposing to lease a site behind houses on Heath Hill Avenue, Bevendean, to the local community group for a food growing project. The site is currently common ground which is undeveloped.

Bevendean Community Garden, in partnership with Novas Scarman and Harvest - the city’s food-growing initiative - plans to use the land to grow organic food for the benefit of the local community.

Council leader Mary Mears said: “This gives the local community a project for people of all ages, helping to educate our children in the rewards of growing your own healthy and cheap food.”

A public consultation is being held on March 28 between 2pm to 3.30pm at Holy Nativity Church Hall in Norwich Drive, Bevendean. For more information on the project visit bevendeancommunitygarden.blogspot.com.

Those communal proyects sound great if people is what they want. Then why is it so many people on the waiting list for INDIVIDUAL allotments, and no waiting lists for communal land like for instance for the Moulsecoomb Garden Centre?. Again BH Council are forgetting to provide for the people needs and pushing their own agenda. Unless the locals are rushing to fill their place up before the council plans for another recycling centre?
