Brighton and Hove to get new green graveyard

A new green graveyard has been given the go-ahead.

Plans to transform a plot of land called Warren Plantation in Warren Road, Woodingdean, into a site for up to 1,800 graves have been agreed by Brighton and Hove City Council The decision was taken as there are no spaces left at the city’s original woodland burial site in Bear Road, Brighton.

The 2.5 acre site will be managed to benefit wildlife.

Trees will be planted to mark graves and no horticultural chemicals are used to control weeds and grass.

It is expected to open in the summer.

Obviously we're running out of news as this story was published as "New green graveyard for Brighton and Hove" by Naomi Loomes
on Wednesday 10th March 2010.

yeah Tim Ridgeway, sort it out! Stop nicking Naomi Loomes' articles for your own. Honestly, if the Argus sets an example like this to the community, with journalists stealing each other's work, is it any wonder feral children are roaming the streets stabbing each other?

Yes, I was puzzled by this, er, resurfacing. Had commented before, wondering who might want Woodingdean detour as a stepping stone to eternity...

Meanwhile, amazed to find that subject of woodland burial brings the security phrase of 'very burn'.

That's funny if you look at the council planning website is states that this project is under consideration, and that planning hasn't been given. The target discussion dates is the May 28th.

Just to clarify the article from Naomi was on proposed plans - the application was then unanimoulsy accepted by the council's planning commitee last week - hope this helps.
