New health centre to open in Brighton

A one-stop health centre open its doors in Brighton tomorrow.

The Wellsbourne centre in Whitehawk brings together two GP practices, a pharmacy and several community services under one roof.

They include podiatry, district nursing, mental health and stop smoking services.

The building in Whitehawk Way has been designed and purpose-built to include a ground-source heat pump, light tubes to maximise natural light and a biodiversity roof covered in plant life.

NHS Brighton and Hove chairman Alan McCarthy said: “We listened to what local people said they needed and the Wellsbourne Centre has been designed and built with that feedback in mind.

“As well as being environmentally friendly, the new centre provides a spacious environment and high quality facilities that will enable health professionals to offer a wider range of health services than are currently available in Whitehawk.”

Two existing GP practices - Broadway Surgery and Whitehawk Medical Practice - are moving into the new health centre.

glad to hear they are employing light tubes, which do indeed help save light, but I fear they may be also using heavy electricity. The problem is that there is a real risk of this falling out of cables and crushing patients, like a rain of invisible lead soup.

well that will look lovely for a few weeks until its vandalised like when they rebuilt the park bit and community centre.
also i know someone who lives in whitehawk and as you can never get a dr's appointment anyway doesnt really matter that they have a nice new building.
mental health services are b*llshit and dont do thier jobs properly not even fot one of thier own so all in all a complete waste of money...no surprises there then.
