A23 closed after two-car crash

Four people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the M23.

Three lanes of the A23 were shut this evening as emergency services attended the two-car collision at the northbound junction with the M23 between Pease Pottage and Crawley at about 6.15pm.

Sussex Police reopened one lane at about 7.10pm.

A police spokesman said one man and four women were treated for minor injuries and four were taken to East Surrey Hospital.

It is thought one of the cars turned over in the collision.

Police, the Highways Agency, South East Ambulance service and fire crews from Crawley all attended the scene.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "One of the cars was well alight but no one was trapped."

Any danger of a day passing by where there isn't an accident between the Pease Pottage and Handcross stretch of the A23/M23?

Looks like it was today, then.
This accident didn't happen anywhere near Handcross, but a good five miles further north, after the Pease Pottage junction - as detailed in this report.

Sorry, don't follow what you are saying

My comment referenced the stretch of road from Handcross Hill to Pease Pottage, ie acknowledging where the above report stated the accident had occurred, whilst making the point that from Handcross Hill to Pease Pottage there are numerous incidents/accidents every month.

Well it's hardly surprising that there's loads of accidents there, as it's a really wide straight well-surfaced road with a crash barrier, street-lights and ample road markings. Quite frankly if it wasn't for the fact that a lot of the English cars have steering wheels I doubt many people would make it form one end to the other.
