Lights across Sussex will be switched off during Earth Hour to help spread the message about tackling climate change.
The Argus is encouraging residents, community groups and businesses to support Earth Hour, which takes place on Saturday between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
People all across the world are being asked to switch their lights off to help support the planet.
Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, and is organised by the World Wildlife Fund. Brighton and Hove City Council has asked its staff members to make sure lights and other electrical items are switched off where appropriate until they are needed again on Monday.
However, lights on the seafront Birdcage bandstand will remain switched on because they have been specifically designed for lowcarbon use, with the latest LED technology allowing for minimal energy use.
