Lewes have got plenty to cheer at last after making a flying start to their Powergen Intermediate Cup campaign.

Their crushing 47-5 defeat of Hove made it two wins in the first eight days of the season and saw them join ten other Sussex clubs in the draw for the second round.

Seven of those were given byes or walkovers on Saturday but Bognor, Hastings and Pulborough all scored impressive home wins.

Lewes have had some tough seasons recently but they took real pleasure from Saturday's win in which 14 of their 15 starters were products of the club's youth set-up.

Liam Craig-Davies sent in lock Andy Turner for the first try and Dave Tyrrell was the provider for Tim Hemsley before the break.

Tyrrell also rounded off a fine move and kicked a conversion and two penalties before Craig-Davies touched down to make it 30-0 at the break.

Struan Robertson replied with a try for Hove but Lewes finished the game strongly with scores from Hemsley, Craig-Davies and Jonathan Lake. Tyrrell kicked another conversion.
