The Albion kids have dedicated their FA Youth Cup run to Adam Hinshelwood.

Seagulls take on Aston Villa in the last 16 at Villa Park next Wednesday without their injured defender Adam Hinshelwood.

Hinshelwood missed last week's victory over Premiership Leicester City at Withdean as they reached the fifth round for the first time.

He underwent an operation on his right knee on Tuesday after suffering damage to the medial ligaments.

Martin Hinshelwood, director of youth and Adam's uncle, said: "I don't know how long Adam will be out for, it could be for between four to eight weeks. It is such a shame for him to miss out in a year in which we are doing so well in the cup.

"The rest of the boys are upset for him and are dedicating the run to him. They want to keep it going so he can play in the later stages and they are in the mood to do it.

"The win over Leicester has given them a confidence boost. People say that Leicester were not very good, but our team played well organised, good football and thoroughly deserve to be praised. They can now go to Villa Park feeling upbeat.

"It will be a tremendous experience for them. It is a ground that has staged cup semi-finals and internationals and will be another part of the boys' learning process."

Hinshelwood is concerned the cup may be a distraction with the under-19s at Wycombe in the Youth Alliance on Saturday.

Hinshelwood said: "The efforts in the Cup are wonderful but the players have to concentrate 100 per cent on the Alliance first. They are second at the moment with four matches left and a chance to be top."

Albion under-17s entertain Northampton at Sussex University on Saturday (11am).

The Supporters Club have hired a coach for parents and fans who want to travel to Villa Park. It leaves Hove at 2.15pm and more information can be obtained from Liz Costa on 01273 885658.
