An injury time goal from Stuart Myall gave Hastings Town a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Sittingbourne.

Promotion-chasing Hastings appeared to be heading for defeat until Myall charged forward from midfield and drilled a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Bourne had earlier opened the scoring through a contentious penalty on 57 minutes.

Mark Zeager slotted home the spot kick after the referee had spotted a hand ball in a crowded goalmouth.

Hastings had the better of the first half and twice hit the post through a Duncan McArthur corner and a powerful shot from Tony Burt.

The visitors also hit the woodwork after the break but it was Hastings who made most of the running.

An injury to goalkeeper James Creed meant central defender Zeager had to go in goal for the final 20 minutes and although he did well to deny Steve Yates, he was powerless to prevent Myall from snatching a point.

After four successive defeats, Langney had the daunting task of visiting Newport (IoW), who are going for promotion.

Referee Jones was on the verge of calling off the game due to a waterlogged pitch.

Eventually the fixture was given the thumbs-up and Newport celebrated by taking the lead in the fourth minute when Steve Tate scrambled the ball home from close range.

Torrential rain made conditions virtually impossible but both sides had to be commended for their positive approach.

Sports dominated the first 45 minutes but despite great effort they were unable to break down a well-organised home defence.

With the pitch deteriorating in the second period, Langney continued to push forward but Newport held firm.
