PETER MOORES led the praise for his side's bowlers as Sussex closed in on their first Championship win of the season at Hove yesterday.

After declaring with a first-innings lead of 278, they had reduced Glamorgan to 242-6, still 36 runs behind, going into the final day.

Robin Martin-Jenkins and Umer Rashid both took two wickets, but Moores is delighted that his attack have stuck to their task on a pitch which is still good for batting.

He said: "We have been very disciplined and kept at it throughout.

"What I liked was that when we bowled again yesterday we didn't sit back on a big lead and waited for things to happen.

"We pushed hard, ensured they had to work hard for every run with some good fielding and kept creating pressure."

Martin-Jenkins was the pick of the attack with 2-72 and Moores believes he has found an extra yard of pace in the last couple of games.

"Robin is really attacking the crease at the moment.

"He's bowling with a lot of agression, using his height well and getting the rewards."

Sussex are on course to complete their first win in any cricket since April 24, although they will have to work hard to remove Adrian Shaw and Robert Croft this morning after they put on 38 in 29 overs last night for the seventh wicket.

"They batted well, but we are in a fantastic position and the new ball is only 11 overs away," added Moores.

"Hopefully we can claim our first win today and then build on it."

The county return to National League action tomorrow when they take on Somerset Sabres at Bath.

The Sharks are still looking for their first victory since promotion to Division One and will have their work cut out against a Sabres' outfit with two wins out of two so far after finishing runners-up to Sussex last season.

Sussex have named an unuchanged 12 with Billy Taylor again likely to miss out. Somerset will be without Andy Caddick who is on Test duty.

Sussex (Probable): Montgomerie, House, Adams, Bevan, Cottey, Carpenter, Martin-Jenkins, Rashid, Patterson, Kirtley, Robinson.
