MP Nigel Waterson has challenged the Government to extend winter fuel payments to benefit disabled people below retirement age.
The Eastbourne MP has tabled a Commons question asking Social Security Secretary Alistair Darling what plans he has to help disabled people who do not draw pensions.
He said: "Whilst I welcome the payment for pensioners, there are some who are better off and who may not really need the cash, whilst a number of disabled people below the age of retirement find it hard to meet their fuel bills at this time of year.
"If it is right for pensioners to receive this kind of help, surely it is right too for older disabled
people who need warm homes as much as anyone. It is just common sense."
