A group of real life superheroes has inspired a worldwide chain of good deeds.

James Macdonald, 28, of Roundhill Crescent, Brighton, has been keeping an internet diary describing random acts of kindness he has done.

James follows in the footsteps of Ivanman, who roamed the streets of Brighton last month, giving gifts of chocolates and flowers to strangers.

Ivanman was eventually unmasked as Ivan Boneyard, 33, from Hove.

He was given £2,000 by morning television show GMTV to spend on people to see how they reacted when someone was nice to them for no reason.

But James has been doing good deeds for people since June.

When he heard about an orphanage in Nairobi in need of money to build a school, he decided to step things up a gear.

Personal trainer James and his friend, fitness instructor Matt Lambert, 24, of Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, have devoted their weekends to running marathons dressed as Batman and Robin with the aim of raising the £5,000 the project will cost.

James has put another Batman costume in the post to Peru where his friend, Gary Cohen, will be doing similar good deeds.

He has also launched another web site, where people around the world can publish details of good deeds they have done.

James said: "There seems to be nothing but bad things going on in the world and we just want to spread a little happiness and do something to help other people."

James and Matt's next big challenge is taking part in the Dublin City Marathon on Monday.

James and Matt keep in regular contact with their Peruvian superhero counterpart, Gary Cohen.

Gary, 26, originally from Brighton, said: "We may be dressed as superheroes but we are ordinary people trying to make some small changes in the world."
