Keith Day (Letters, June 3) accuses the Green Party of going against its principles by delivering junk mail.

Yet producing election leaflets and party newspapers is the only way small groups can begin to build a following. Surely this is fundamental to a thriving democracy?

Mr Day cannot blame the Greens for using road transport either.

Thanks to consecutive Conservative and Labour governments, the closure of the Red Star service means it is now impossible to move modest quantities of goods by rail.

Groups like the Greens and Respect are passionate about solving the environmental crises facing humanity.

These groups also realise that environmental improvement and sustainable living requires significant social change - something that the big parties, backed by planet-guzzling multi-national corporations, are not too keen about.

Making a little mess is surely acceptable in beginning to solve a far greater one.
