I completely agree with Diana Kean (Letters, May 12). It may sound quite pompous, but she's right. You shouldn't have children when you cannot afford to bring them up properly or educate them sufficiently to make a success of their lives.

Perhaps the reason behind the increase in pram-pushing, loud-mouthed, big gold hoop earinged mothers is that the more children they produce, the more they can glean in benefits. Is this correct?
