Albion gave trialist Paul Reid a run in their 7-1 Sussex Senior Cup semi-final romp over ten-man Eastbourne Borough.

The Bradford City midfielder came off after 70 minutes in the first game of his two-match trial.

Reserves manager Dean White said: "He went to Chesterfield to see our game, then he went back to Bradford before travelling down in a car for four hours for this game.

"He's done a few miles and said he was feeling a bit stiff. We didn't want him to get injured so we gave him just over an hour and he'll train Thursday and we'll take it from there."

Chris McPhee and David Lee hit two apiece at The Saffrons to help Albion book their place against Worthing in the final.

Dean Hammond, John Piercy and substitute Mark Windsor were also on target in front of a crowd of 1,218 including Albion boss Mark McGhee.

McPhee struck three times in Albion's quarter-final win over Eastbourne United and he was again in ruthless form as the Dr Martens premier division side's dream of reaching a third final in succession was left in tatters.

Albion took the lead on 30 minutes when Dean Hammond volleyed home a Piercy corner at the far post. They added their second in first-half injury time when Piercy played a neat one-two with McPhee before steering his shot past Lee Hook.

It all went disastrously wrong for Borough after the break as they conceded three goals in four minutes.

Lee converted a low McPhee centre on 57 minutes and within a minute McPhee had struck a beautiful half volley into the top corner to make it 4-0.

Two minutes later sub Mark Windsor's shot was only parried by Hook and the ball dipped over his head and over the line.

Borough captain Daren Pearce's protest earned him a straight red card.

Scott Ramsay pulled a goal back on 72 minutes after Danny Simmonds was fouled, but McPhee made it 6-1 two minutes later with a free header.

Lee saved the best for last, curling in a 40-yard free kick off the bar on 76 minutes for 7-1.
