Your letter-writer list for 2003 was impressive.

I was most impressed by a short, sane letter on behalf of local bicycle riders supporting a downland national park - a cause which would have been dear to the hearts of such downland writers as Belloc, Chesterton, Jefferies and Hudson.

Instead we are bombarded with comment by expensively-funded barristers employed by farmers and councils whose record of crimes against the environment is unparalleled and whose need to thwart the wishes of the people is distasteful.
