A woman who worked at Bentalls department store in Worthing has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Beatrice Hart, born in 1903, was the centre of attention when Westdene Rest Home in Rye Close, Worthing, staged a party to mark her centenary.

Mrs Hart and other residents were entertained by singing Beaver Scouts and the Edwardians, a group of people who dress in pre-First World War costumes.

She also received a visit from Mayor of Worthing James Doyle, and his wife Mel, and also got a congratulatory card from the Queen.

Mrs Hart's daughter, Lois Norton, said: "She lived in Stockport for quite a lot of her life but has been down here for the past 47 years.

"She used to work at Bentalls in the workroom, doing alterations on ladies' dresses."

Mrs Hart has two grandsons, Steve and David, and a great granddaughter, Alice, who is two-and-a-half months old.
