Thousands of pounds is to be splashed out on young people in a seaside town.

Civic leaders have agreed to invest almost £250,000 in facilities for youngsters in Hastings and St Leonards.

The money will go towards skateboard facilities, kickabout areas and safe-play surfaces in the West Hill and Ore Valley areas.

Councillor Trevor Webb, Cabinet member for leisure at Hastings Borough Council, said: "This area has the fastest growing young population in East Sussex and we've given a public commitment to support the needs of young people.

"At the heart of this commitment is the need to produce an action plan for young people.

"We will be extending sports programmes in priority areas. We will also provide play activities in White Rock Gardens each Friday in August as well as improve skateboard facilities there.

"During the next 18 months, we will provide two major new facilities for young people on the West Hill and in the Ore Valley.

"These will include a multi-sports surface, which will be fenced and floodlit."
