England women's skipper Clare Connor has joined the Channel 4 cricket team.

Her first interview will be with England captain Nasser Hussain for the channel's Cricket Show, to be screened on May 17.

Connor will then conduct interviews at Lord's for the first Test against Zimbabwe, which begins on May 22.

The all-rounder, who also leads Sussex and Brighton and Hove, said: "I am being thrown in at the deep end and I'm looking forward to it."

The Brighton College teacher has commentated for Radio Five Live.

She said: "Channel 4 heard my commentaries, they must have thought I talked cricketing sense.

"I feel most comfortable when I'm doing live commentaries and I hope to be doing a few of those later in the year.

"The Cricket Show is more a magaziney-type programme, but they are being pre-recorded, so hopefully I can get things right.

"I know Nasser and will probably give him a ring before interviewing him. It is a real highlight for me."

She will join a Channel 4 team which includes Mike Atherton, Richie Benaud and Michael Slater, with Mark Nicholas the frontman.

Sybil Roscoe was on the team which produced the magazine programme Cricket Roadshow last year.

But Connor said: "They are making changes this year and I'm pleased to be a part of them.

"I've developed my media skills. My first articles were for The Argus and were called 'Clare Declares' and I do a lot of writing for the Cricketer.

"Several sports people have gone over to the media side and I think my passion and knowledge of the game will come through."

She believes she can juggle her commitments and will captain England against South Africa in a women's series this summer.

She said: "I wouldn't have taken on my television role if it had affected my playing cricket."
