Murray Goodwin believes he is in the form of his life as he prepares for his third season with Sussex.

Goodwin and the county's other overseas player, Pakistani leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, will both play in tomorrow's final warm-up match against Cardiff UCCE at Hove (11am).

The 30-year-old Zimbabwean batsman, who has scored more than 2,800 first-class runs in two seasons with Sussex, has just returned from a successful winter with Western Australia.

He was leading run scorer for his state in the Pura Cup with 674 at 42.12 including two centuries and averaged nearly 40 in one-day cricket as well.

Goodwin said: "I believe I'm batting as well as I've ever done it's just a matter of producing it out in the middle for Sussex."

He insists it does not take him long to adjust from hard, bouncy Australian wickets to slow, low English pitches.

"I have to watch that I don't play my shots too early, it's a matter of being patient and then playing each ball as it comes but personally it only takes a couple of sessions.

"From what I've seen from a team point of view everything is going okay in pre-season, we just have to get everyone firing, especially the pace bowlers."

Sussex will make a late decision on their team after assessing the form of several experienced players, including James Kirtley, Jason Lewry and Paul Hutchison, who are currently playing in a two-day friendly against Somerset II.

The team that plays is likely to be very similar to the line-up for the opening Championship fixture at Lord's against Middlesex next Wednesday.
