I thought I was a pretty fanatical Albion supporter, having attended hundreds of matches, until I encountered the real fanatics.

Take, for instance, Paul Samrah of Henfield and John Baine of Southwick (Letters, April 1).

The full weight of their venom is directed at Falmer Parish Council, its "marginalised Nimby approach"

(Samrah) and MP Norman Baker. Oh, and his fellow Liberal David Bellotti, who in fact no longer has anything to do with the club.

As a resident of Withdean, I suffer relatively little inconvenience from the Albion's presence here.

Since the stadium has been here longer than I have and it's a busy area anyway, I don't feel it would be right to object to it.

Brighton and Hove City Council was within its rights to increase its usage. The Albion have proved it is viable here so, although a larger stadium is desirable, it cannot be allowed to turn local democracy into a North Stand skirmish.

The whole issue is political. The New Labour council has put the club in an impossible position by ruling out all possibilities other than Falmer, a small community which is not in Brighton and Hove.

People there cannot vote out Labour councillors and were not part of the "referendum".

The Liberal Democrats, however, are committed to supporting small but close communities which are picked on by those they cannot vote for.

Could I suggest the council looks at sites in Southwick or, indeed, Henfield?

If people outside Brighton and Hove are as keen on the Albion as Samrah suggests, I am sure his neighbours will be very pleased.
