Seagulls supremo Steve Coppell has praised the attitude of Charlie Oatway after leaving him out of the long-awaited victory against Bradford on Saturday.

Simon Rodger was given his full debut instead and he scored a spectacular goal before hobbling off to be replaced by Oatway late in the second half.

"Charlie didn't play but he still came on and had a massive role," said Coppell. "It's all too easy for people to sulk when they are left out, but Charlie's not like that.

"He is a really competitive character and in the time he was on he added to us rather than just filling a hole. I am going to need everyone and more if we are going to continue to win points from our position.

"It's become more of a 16-man game. The dressing room can be a lonely place and it helps if you know there are people wanting you to be successful, rather than wanting you to make a mistake."
