Albion go into tomorrow night's home game against Wycombe Wanderers with a double boost for their automatic promotion bid.

Bobby Zamora returns from suspension as the Seagulls try to take advantage of a favourable set of results on Saturday.

Zamora's three-match ban ended with Friday's 3-1 setback at Stoke.

Boss Peter Taylor was pleased with the performance at the Britannia Stadium, although Albion's fourth defeat out of six away from Withdean meant they took two points from three matches in the absence of their 26-goal kingpin.

"The positive was that we played quite well without Bobby," Taylor said. He knows and we know how much we have missed him. He will be nice and fresh and looking forward to the game on Tuesday night."

Bristol City missed the chance to close within a point of Albion on Saturday when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Brentford.

The Seagulls are still four points clear of Bristol and Brentford and two ahead of third-placed Stoke with a game in hand.

Leaders Reading came from 2-0 down at half time to draw 2-2 at rock-bottom Cambridge United. Albion are seven points adrift of the Royals with a game in hand ahead of their table-topping showdown at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Huddersfield, Tranmere and Wycombe, three of the play-off contenders, also all dropped points at the weekend. Taylor watched tomorrow's visitors suffer a surprise 2-0 defeat against lowly Bury at Adams Park.

"Brentford were further behind us than Bristol City, so we preferred them to win," Taylor said.

"You tend to get greedy when you see Reading are losing 2-0, but overall it wasn't a terrible day for us. It just proves there is still a long way to go.

"We have got six home games left, but as Wrexham proved in the last one they will not be easy. It doesn't automatically mean we are going top win them. We've just had two difficult away games at Bournemouth and Stoke. We bounced back when we lost at Oldham recently and that is what we intend to do tomorrow."

Taylor is close to completing the signing of Australian goalkeeper Chris Jones on a short-term contract. The 26-year-old from South Melbourne could make his second appearance for the reserves in the Sussex Senior Cup at Horsham tonight (7.45).
