I cannot believe the audacity of P R Edwards (Letters, February 28), who complained about the "petty-minded people" upset by the noise he made while gorging on chocolates.
There is nothing worse, while concentrating on a film or play in a public venue, than someone sitting and eating food with rustling bags and wrappers. Theatres and cinemas are to blame, too, for selling noisy snacks.
I just could not believe this person was uspet. Did he not get the hint when asked to stop? Even four rows back, he had been spotted and, to the dismay of someone else, was going to continue inflicting his selfish behaviour.
Yes, it's a democratic society but also a society where we should and could display better manners when it involves other people being affected by our actions.
