Albion boss Peter Taylor confirmed today that he has still not signed a contract.

Taylor has refused to put pen to paper due to concerns over the time it will take for the Seagulls to move into a new stadium at Falmer and the club's training facilities.

Taylor was offered a three-year deal by chairman Dick Knight when he took charge in October.

The former England under-21 and Leicester chief told The Argus today: "I can confirm I have not signed anything. It has got nothing to do with players, supporters or the chairman.

"It's just that since I have been here there have been some slight frustrations with some of the facilities available.

"That doesn't mean I am going anywhere else, but I am really pushing the club to move on.

"In my first week here I had discussions with Dick about it, so he knows and understands the situation.

"I am a tracksuit manager. I have come to Brighton because I want to be out training every day. If I haven't got the facilities I need that makes life difficult."

The earliest Albion will move into their proposed new stadium at Falmer is 2004-2005, so they face at least another two full seasons at the 7,000 capacity Withdean Stadium.

When Taylor was first appointed the Seagulls were training at Christ's Hospital School in Horsham, a temporary arrangement prompted by pitch problems with their headquarters at the University of Sussex, Falmer.

Taylor is not the first Albion manager or player irritated by the club's makeshift home and training facilities.

They were constant bones of contention for his predecessor Micky Adams before he quit for Leicester as Dave Bassett's No.2. They also played a major part in the transfer request in November of star defender Danny Cullip.

Albion are on course for promotion to the First Division under Taylor. They were third when he took over and are still in the second automatic promotion place, despite Friday's 3-1 defeat by their closest challengers Stoke.

Taylor expects to clinch the signing of Australian goalkeeper Chris Jones today on a short-term contract for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old from South Melbourne will not be involved in tonight's Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final at Horsham (7.45), but he will make his second appearance for the reserves at Norwich on Wednesday afternoon.
