East Grinstead have leapfrogged promotion rivals Worthing ahead of their big cup showdown.

The sides meet at Roundstone Lane in the first round of the Sussex Trophy next Sunday, then clash again in the league at Saint Hill three weeks later.

Grinstead go into the knockout clash in great heart after thrashing Dunstonians 51-14, though they felt they could have won by more.

Gs' Steve Perry said: "We played some good stuff at times but another 20 points would have been nice.

"We could have done it. We missed a couple of good chances for tries and it was a difficult day for goalkicking."

Ray Hennessy, Guy Cook, Mike Ayres and Matt Lester scored two tries apiece with hooker Robbie Magee also crossing.

Steve O'Reilly added three conversions.

Former Sedgley Park man Stuart Sorrell was given a run at No.9 as Grinstead looked to solve their scrum half crisis.

Their two first choice scrum halves are out with long term injuries and Arnaud Senebaide's comeback has been cut short. He is moving back to France later this month.

Grinstead's win was the only game played in the division. Lewes's home derby with Brighton and Worthing's trip to Tonbridge Juddian were both called off for a second time.

Worthing fixed up a friendly with Hastings and Bexhill and won 91-3, helped by four tries from South African prop Raynn Bruce and three by Charlie McCarrick.

Eastbourne are well set to grab the second promotion spot in London Four South East.

They won at 59-17 Uckfield while rivals Bognor saw their hopes surely end with defeat at Guy's Hospital. Folkestone are now Eastbourne's main rivals for second place in the table, behind runaway leaders Betteshanger.

The pivotal match looks to be Folkestone's trip to Park Avenue on March 16, though Eastbourne also face a potentially tricky game at Hove.

It could then come down to a showdown on the last day of the season when Betteshanger go to Eastbourne.

Andy Moore led Saturday's rout with two tries and seven conversions. Paul Newell, Rob Light, Adrian Norwood, Spencer Pullinger, Matthew Pysden, Matt Cockayne and Dave Webbon also got over.

Nick Ridley (2) and Anthony Monk scored tries for an Uckfield side who never gave up. Henry Hadow added a conversion.

Bognor had a nightmare three-hour journey to Guy's Hospital's ground in south east London and soon went 17-0 down.

Tries from Tom Spurle, Paul Mitchell and Des O'Connor gave them hope but they lost 27-15.

Skipper Karl Flynn, who set up two of the scores, admitted: "Promotion has gone now. Losing to Eastbourne the previous week took a lot out of us."
