there is a simple solution to tackling graffiti yobs (The Argus, February 4) that has worked well elsewhere. It's called "make them clear it up".
I paid a brief visit to Germany and although there was graffiti it was by no means widespread. I queried this with my host, who said those caught had to clear it up under the supervision of the police. Being seen with a mop and a bucket is not good for yobs' street credibility.
It should be no one else's responsibility to clean up except those who create the graffiti. Unless we get back to such basics, we are never going to improve areas such as Cross Street, Worthing.
Why isn't cleaning of this type tackled under community service orders?
