Worthing can make it a table-topping Christmas by beating old rivals Lewes tomorrow.

But assistant coach Ben Coulson has warned his side not to under-estimate their visitors as competition hots up in London Three South East.

Victory by a commanding 29-3 at Brighton two weeks ago has left Worthing poised to go into the New Year in pole position, ahead of East Grinstead on points difference.

With Coulson expecting to return to the back division in the next few weeks after injury, the outlook is bright at Roundstone Lane.

Lewes have fought dogged rearguard actions against both the top sides in recent weeks, as well as winning at Crawley.

Coulson said: "We want to be top of the table all the way through the season but we know East Grinstead are playing really well and Sidcup are not slipping up often.

"Our coach Ian Davies watched the video of the Brighton game and, although we were pleased to win by five tries to nil, he spotted patches where we were not good at all."

Paul Todd replaces wing Anthony Cruz as the only change to the side which won at Waterhall.

East Grinstead hope to have Arnaud Senebaide back at their problem position of scrum half for the home clash with Charlton Park.

Lock Danie Venter is being given a new role for Brighton as they travel to Sidcup.

Coach Bert Merritt believes the big South African's rangy running makes him more of a breakaway than a tight five man so he starts at No. 6.

There is a debut for scrum half Paul Pride, who is studying at Brighton University and replaces Julian Hutchens, who has a knock.

Andy Pinnock reverts to No. 10 to help guide Pride through his first match, Carwyn James comes in at 13 and there is a welcome return for key prop Martin McDonagh.

Simon Peters is due to return at No. 8, though, like James, his participation depends on a fitness test.

Merritt said: "Against Worthing some heads were too high and people were looking to run off the ball rather than getting in there and winning it."

Fit-again flanker Dave Wattam has been unable to force his way back into the Haywards Heath side for their key London One clash at Cheshunt.

Heath excelled in beating London Nigerians a fortnight ago with Tom Hills impressive in the back row.

He keeps his place so Wattam, like top points scorer Owen Ashton, must wait on the bench as Heath bid to complete the double.

Game of the day in Four South East sees Bognor attack Betteshanger's unbeaten record.

Skipper Karl Flynn said: "We see this as the biggest game of the season. It is looking like it will be us two and Eastbourne fighting it out but we need to win this one."

Eastbourne face a potential banana skin away to an Uckfield side who have made life tough for plenty of opponents.

Heathfield will expect to retain top spot in Sussex One, despite having a host of players unavailable for the clash with UC Chichester.

Heath coach Herb Merritt was unable to name a side at training last night and said: "It's not the best preparation."
