Eastbourne Borough coach Nick Greenwood has admitted he is disappointed that striker Gavin Geddes has made a quick about turn and returned to Ryman League Worthing.

Former Albion professional Geddes left Priory Lane after a fortnight citing excessive travel demands for his sudden decision.

Greenwood said: "We are disappointed that Gavin has gone as he is a proven goalscorer. I am not 100 per cent sure about his reasons and motivation. He has said it is down to travelling and he has made a couple of journeys to us in the days he has been here. It can be a difficult place to get to at times but he has taken a short-term view.

"If you want to play at a high level then most players accept that the travelling goes with the territory."

He added: "Maybe, with us looking to get into the Premier League, Gavin would not have been a player to take us forward. If you look at Crawley and the travelling they do in the Premier, players have to be prepared to sit on a coach for four to five hours at a time."

With Geddes struck from the wage bill, Borough are again able to cast their eye over any available talent.

Greenwood said: "We had taken our budget almost up to the limit with Gavin so now there may be a little bit available. We are always looking, though that is not to say we are not happy with how we are doing at the moment."

A superb 2-1 victory in midweek over Bedford Town in their FA Trophy replay has landed Garry Wilson's side with a top tie at Dagenham and Redbridge on January 12.

There are plenty of big games to come before the trip to the Conference high-flyers though, with Hastings, and Histon among them.

Borough were without a game today and Greenwood admitted: "After the two games against Bedford, and with two games from now until Christmas coming up, we are grateful for the break."

Borough hope to have Dean Lightwood and Nathan Godden (calf) back for Tuesday's trip to Tonbridge Angels.
