Euro-MP Chris Huhne has welcomed an EU decision to ban bull bars from the front of all new cars.
The Liberal Democrat MEP said the ban will help save lives and reduce injuries in Sussex and across the whole of Europe.
Mr Huhne said: "Bull bars are nothing more than a fashion accessory for drivers of oversize vehicles.
"This is excellent news for pedestrians and cyclists in the South-East and will help ensure car manufacturers start taking their safety responsibilities more seriously.
"In the vast majority of cases, these bars serve no purpose whatsoever.
"They increase the risk to cyclists and people crossing the road.
"Children are especially vulnerable because of their size and I am delighted something is being done to protect them."
