Thousands of people have one week left to put forward their views on a planned change to hospital services.

The public consultation on proposals to transfer all inpatient services from Southlands Hospital in Shoreham to Worthing Hospital ends on December 17.

The proposals could mean up to 4,000 extra people a year from the Arun, Adur, Chanctonbury and Worthing areas travelling to Worthing instead of Shoreham.

Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs both hospitals, said the move was vital to maintain good standards of care and attract doctors.

It said it was committed to the future of Southlands Hospital but people against the proposals were worried about the future of the hospital.

Many patients and residents fear the building will eventually be pulled down to make way for housing.

Other concerns include the difficulty people living in smaller villages and towns would have getting to Worthing by bus.

People should send comments to Candy Morris, Chief Executive, West Sussex Health Authority, The Causeway, Goring, Worthing, BN12 6BT.
