Albion midfielder Geoff Pitcher is targeting another headline-making FA Cup run.

Pitcher was part of the Kingstonian team which reached the fourth round last season before losing to Bristol City.

The last time the table-topping Seagulls got that far was in 1992-93, when they were knocked out by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"The FA Cup is something special," Pitcher said. "The further you go the more money the club gets and the spotlight on the players is something different.

"It takes away a lot of pressure from the league, so the further we can go the better it will be."

Pitcher, bought from Kingstonian in the summer for £25,000, was the best player for a makeshift Albion line-up in Tuesday's golden goal exit from the LDV Vans Trophy at Cambridge United.

"I've started five games now for Brighton and I feel as if I have done well in most of them," said the pint-sized playmaker.

"Micky Adams told me he was going to gradually ease me into things and just before he left he said he would start playing me a lot more.

"Now Peter Taylor has come in and the side has been winning, so you cannot really change it."

Albion pocketed £20,000 for their first round victory over Shrewsbury and they are already guaranteed at least another £100,000 for live coverage by Sky of today's second round tie against Rushden and Diamonds.

Richard Hebberd, Albion's safety officer, has indicated Withdean would be capable of putting on a potential third round moneyspinner against one of the Premiership giants.

Hebberd said: "I cannot see any reason at the moment why we wouldn't stage a third round tie."

The Seagulls would be reluctant to concede home advantage, which can only be done for safety reasons.

Ticket stub holders for today's game have been promised "the prospect of priority booking for a prestigious draw against a Premiership club in the third round."

The third round draw is televised tomorrow afternoon, immediately after the BBC's match between Canvey Island and Northampton.

Albion centre half Andy Crosby is still mulling over a free transfer move to Oxford.
