So, another Brighton live venue bites the dust. The conversion of the legendary Lift on Queens Road to yet another boring disco pub is a disgrace.

Losing money? I was at the Jazz Club last Friday to see the fantastic Gilad Atzmon's last gig in the UK for a while and, as usual, it was packed out - standing room only - and even some regulars were turned away. And how many bar staff were on hand to service the thirsty hordes? One valiant soul.

Presumably, it will be more profitable to sell alcopops to a few young people dancing than countless pints of Harveys to old men with beards.
