Eastbourne's local election boundaries have been altered over concerns that the old ones were unfair.
The town's borough council said the changes would mean all councillors represented roughly the same number of residents.
Deputy council leader Bob Lacey said the changes would make councillors' lives easier.
He said: "In Langney we had 10,500 electors for three councillors while in the Devonshire ward there were just 5,000. It was unfair. The Langney councillors were doing twice as much work and dealing with twice as many problems."
The changes mean each council ward now has roughly 8,000 constituents.
Coun Lacey said: "I expect we will see an increased turn-out as a result of the boundary changes."
The boundary changes have been approved by local government minister Stephen Byers.
A copy of the Eastbourne Review outlining details of the changes will be put through residents' doors and information will appear in the Press in coming weeks.
