The media, including The Argus, has given sterling service in reporting the sad events of last week's terrorist attacks in America. Reports in The Argus have been reaching readers in the US. What must their reaction be to the strapline "Terror in New York sparks calls for a visionary city mayor" (The Argus, September 20)?

The Argus gives due praise to New York city mayor Rudolph Giuliani for his response to New York's "darkest hour" However, I find it distasteful that The Argus - no doubt to further its on-going support for an elected mayor in Brighton and Hove - sees fit and proper to latch on to those horrific events to provide nearly a full page of comparison with a local coming event.

The election may be of importance to our residents but it pales into insignificance compared to the horror of events in New York. Is this not the weakest link?
