A motorcyclist injured in an accident yesterday has died.

The death brings the number of motorcyclists killed on West Sussex roads this year to nine, compared with seven during the whole of 2000.

The 42-year-old rider's machine hit a lamp post near Arundel yesterday.

Councillor Tex Pemberton, West Sussex County Council Cabinet member responsible for highway matters, issued a warning last week to bikers to cut their speed and take greater care.

Within days a man was killed in a motorbike accident at Tillington, near Petworth.

The man involved in yesterday's crash is thought to come from Essex.

He died in St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, after the accident, on the A27 near the Ford roundabout on the outskirts of Arundel.

Coun Pemberton said today: "I am very saddened to hear of this latest accident and I would once again urge motorcyclists to take great care and use caution on our roads."
