All-rounder Robin Martin-Jenkins is poised to make his comeback after two months on the sidelines when Sussex take on Middlesex under the Hove floodlights tonight (4.10pm).

Martin-Jenkins has been named in a 12-man squad for the Norwich Union League game after making 113 for the seconds against Essex at Horsham yesterday.

He has been bowling without pain since the weekend after having an injection to try and cure the rib muscle injury which has kept him out since June 3.

And, providing there is no reaction to his efforts yesterday, he is expected to play in a game Sussex must win if they are to keep alive their slim hopes of a promotion double this season.

Skipper Chris Adams said: "If Robin is fit he will play, there's no doubt we have missed being able to use him in all forms of cricket over the last few weeks."

Sussex currently lie sixth in Division Two with only three wins so far, but they still have half their fixtures to play and three of the current top four, Durham, Hampshire and Glamorgan, are still to visit Hove.

"We have worked it out that we can only afford to lose one more game, but it's very easy to get on a winning roll in this competition and that is what we must aim to do," added Adams.

"We are definitely capable of it. Because we are playing most of our day-night matches in the second half of the season there is still a lot of cricket to be played.

But whatever happens we will be competing in every match right until the end of the season."

Umer Rashid could bat as high as No. 4 against his old county which Adams believes will enable Will House and Bas Zuiderent to come into their own in the last ten overs of the innings.

"Will and Bas have tended to come in a bit too early in some of the other matches, we need to set the game up so two of our strongest strikers are there at the end pushing us hopefully towards a big total," said Adams.

Middlesex are one of three teams below Sussex in the table, having won just once so far.

The teams meet again in a second versus first Championship match at Hove tomorrow when play will start at the normal time of 11am.
