Langney Sports have received a £100,000 windfall from the Football Foundation.

The Dr Martens League Eastern Division side will receive the cash to make further improvements to their Priory Lane home.

It is the second major injection of cash the club have received in the last 12 months. Last season Sports received £45,000 from the Football Trust.

Chairman Len Smith, who returned home from a two-week break in Florida to the news, said: "This is a wonderful boost for the club. We can now upgrade the ground to Premier Division status and then there's only a few minor bits of work that will need to be done to take it to Conference standard.

"It's all a big dream for us. If someone had said a few years ago that we would be in this position I would find it hard to believe."

The club need to find a further £50,000 to meet the costs of the project that will see all four sides of the ground covered and new perimeter fencing installed.

Only an extension to the terracing will be needed to bring Priory Lane up to Nationwide Conference standard.

Smith added: "It's very exciting times for the club. We've been progressing in stages. This season, we always knew that it was a case of consolidating in the Eastern Division. Our priority is to upgrade the ground and sensibly improve the team."

Coach Nick Greenwood said: "Everything's going our way at the moment. We're in good form and this off-the-field boost will give everyone a further lift."
