It is unfair of Councillor Jenny Langston (Argus, March 23) to blame the electoral services officers for the fact that the by-election has been called for May 3.
Once the appropriate papers have been filed by members of the public, the officers concerned have to comply with standing instructions which are defined in law.
Council officers blamed in The Argus will find it difficult to defend themselves in response.
