Crawley Town progressed to the Dr Martens League Cup quarter finals after beating Baldock Town 3-0 in dreadful conditions.

The Broadfield Stadium pitch deteriorated as the game went on but Reds were able to get the result they needed after finally overcoming Eastern Division's high-flyers Baldock.

Reds' Marc Pullan had to clear an early Gary Walker effort off the line.

But home fans did not have long to wait for the opening goal, which arrived on 20 minutes as Luke Anderson rose to head in Danny Carroll's deep cross via a deflection on the goal line.

Leroy Huggins headed Nigel Brake's corner just over from close range and Mark Hynes found the side netting from another Brake cross.

Brake forced Baldock keeper Adam Wheeler into a fine save on 40 minutes from his stinging free kick.

Huggins almost doubled the lead right on half time as he cut in from the right but pulled his shot just wide.

Reds continued their dominance with some good football in the second half.

After Danny Carroll limped off with injury on 52 minutes, Dave Powell saw a 20-yard drive fly just over.

Huggins' header dropped just over the bar on 59 minutes while Wheeler had to deny Hynes from close range.

Substitute Ian Payne provided the cross for Powell to head in the goal he deserved for a fine performance eight minutes from time.

Reds still created chances and Mark Hawthorne went close before sub Dean Wordsworth fired in the third following a corner.
