I read with great interest your articles on the Frances Whitehouse affair and can only sympathise with her father, although the question has to be asked, did both parents exercise enough discipline throughout their daughter's upbringing?

Is this yet another sad example of "spare the rod"?

As for Mrs Whitehouse's comments about domestic violence, I fail to see how this term can apply - after all, Frances and boyfriend are not married and therefore have no claim or control one over the other.

People who "shack up" like cave dwellers or wild animals deserve no protection.

If you live like a wild animal, is it any wonder that, at times, you might behave like one?

In closing, may I correct your correspondent's comments that Hastings is to receive £22 million from Brussels (Argus, February 28).

Brussels does not have any money. That which is being offered is merely a part of that paid by British taxpayers and now being redistributed.
