A group of fine art photographers is launching into cyberspace with the development of an online picture library.

Mark Nelson, Steve Parry and Adrian Groom have already established a reputation by displaying their work in their First Light Gallery in Brighton.

From January, their pictures will be able to be viewed and bought by advertisers and designers around the world via the internet.

First Light is joining forces with Monsoon Images, a New York-based photography group which recently launched one of the world's first fully digitalised online picture libraries, aimed at the advertising industry.

First Light will act as the European arm of Monsoon Images, running an online picture library alongside its gallery in the Lanes. When it is fully operational, digital pictures will be transferred to a database, ready to be downloaded by clients.

Adrian Groom, First Light's director of marketing, said: "It's a new way of working because advertising clients always used to require negatives which we would mail to them.

"Now the images only exist in cyberspace.

"This project is very exciting for all of us as it is a world-wide outlet for our work.We hope it is going to be really big."

Creative director Mark Nelson said: "Photography as an art form is in a unique position to capitalise on new technologies.

"Right from the earliest days, it has been able to absorb, adapt and evolve in ways where other mediums struggle."
