Jeremy Boyse scored his 100th National League goal as Lewes gained revenge over Doncaster in division one on Sunday.

Boyse became one of a select band of players to reach such a landmark by bagging the second goal in a 3-1 triumph.

It was Doncaster who denied Lewes a place in the premier division last season, holding them to a 2-2 draw on the final day of the season which instead allowed Loughborough Students to clinch promotion to the top flight.

Manager Peter Boyse reminded his players on that result before the start.

Boyse said: "That was talked about before the game. We said, 'Remember last March? Let's make sure we put that right today'.

"They are not quite the side they were last year but neither are we. However, we were good value for our win.

"We played some good hockey and ran out deserved winners in the end."

After failing to convert a couple of short corners, Lewes went ahead in the 13th minute when Ben Hawes struck a free hit from just outside the circle, Jeremy Boyse's resulting shot was saved but the rebound fell kindly for Alistair Boyse to score with a reverse stick shot.

The visitors were denied an equaliser on 18 minutes when Ryan Standing saved on the line with keeper Chris Hibbert stranded.

Lewes doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Jeremy Boyse scored from the second of two short corners.

Seven minutes into the second half Doncaster pulled one back but that galvanised Lewes into action and they soon restored their two goal advantage when Phil Walker scrambled the ball home following another free hit. Boyse added: "It was a much better performance than in recent weeks. If we can continue from there we can consolidate our position."

EAST Grinstead had to settle for a 3-3 draw in lively bottom-of-the-table clash away to Indian Gymkhana.

The first half produced five goals with the balance of play favouring the close skills of the hosts, who twice went ahead in the 20th and 25th minutes following defensive errors.

However, Grinstead again showed their fighting spirit by forcing a series of short corners and Ben Payne, in the unaccustomed role of drag flicker, beat the goalkeeper with two low shots to make it 2-2.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Gymkhana were awarded a corner from which they scored a soft goal to regain the lead.

After the break Grinstead took more control and the pace of young Andy Medcalf posed real problems for the home defence. From one such break ten minutes from time Grinstead won a penalty corner and Dominic Male made it 3-3.
