peacehaven & telscombe Joy Ashton 01273 587714 TWINNING: Have you heard about the Peacehaven and District Twinning Association? This organisation aims to further links with our two twin towns in Epinay-sous-Sennart, near Paris, and Isernhagen just outside Hanover. As well as meetings and exchanges in the other countries there are lots of activities organised for members locally.

Some of the social activities that have been planned for this year include a countryside walk near Friston Forest on Sunday, a mini market at the Meridian Centre on June 27, a car boot sale at the Dell on July 9 and a special themed Christmas Party at Telscombe Hall on December 2.

If you would like more information, contact Brian Vernon on 583789. The association produces a very well put together newsletter which has all the information in full.

BUSES: A welcome follow-up to the consultation meeting at Conway Street bus offices in February and to the visit from Brighton and Hove Buses to the Community Centre AGM has been the improvement on route 22 to a ten-minute service.

The route runs from Woodingdean by way of Race Hill/Elm Grove, Open Market and Old Steine to Churchill Square/Dyke Road to Seven Dials/Vernon Terrace.

We look forward to news of a bus service linking Woodingdean to Falmer station from Cowley Drive northbound on Falmer Road and for provision, possibly by alternate services from the Kipling Avenue- Downs Valley Road-The Ridgway and Crescent Drive North and South area of Woodingdean to the Open Market, London Road and Brighton Station.

LIBRARY: Rapt attention was the name of the game as children from Woodingdean Primary School fell silent from their usual noisy chatter during their visit to Woodingdean Community Library, a delightful scenario of the "sea of blue".

MEMORIES: Last Saturday about a dozen of us were at the library being regaled by local author John Knight talking about his book, A Ha'porth of Sweets, which records his adventures as a child in Brighton in the 1930s and early 1940s.

CHURCH: Downs Baptist Church are giving a presentation at 10.30am on Sunday "for friends and guests who are not used to 'church' ". It is entitled Come and See" with the heading "So that was the Millennium?" and will include music featuring mezzo soprano Ann Gall plus video, dance, drama and much more. The event takes place at Woodingdean Primary School.

If you want to sign the Petition about new premises for the church, there is still time.

CHURCH EVENTS: Church warden Ron Brown tells me that Fr Christopher was successfully licensed by the Bishop of Chichester at St Mary Magdalen church, Selham Drive, and has taken up residence in the vicarage. He is a team vicar but Coldean will be his main parish.

The Plant Sale in the grounds of the church was a great success. It raised £480. Ron would like to thank everyone for their support. The money made will go to church funds. I have also been asked to remind readers that cream teas will be served in the church grounds at 3pm on June 18.

ALLOTMENTS: Gerry Nevill, treasurer of the Brighton and Hove federated allotments, tells me that a group of Coldean tenants are entering the Coronation Cup and Stan Hall competition organised by Brighton and Hove in Bloom.

WOMENS INSTITUTE: A meeting of the Coldean WI is to take place at the Coldean Church hall on June 12 at 8pm. Interesting talks take place, tea and biscuits will be available.

CELEBRATION: Two Brighton Excelsior Cycling Club members, Bob and Stella Green, celebrated their golden wedding at Patcham Memorial Hall.

Attending the celebrations were many cyclists from the past, including myself. I was also at their wedding in 1950. Also present was Stella's Mother who was celebrating her 100th birthday.

CHORUS: The Coastline Harmony Chorus meet every Wednesday evening at Portslade Community College except for school holidays. An open evening is being held on June 21 when you will be made very welcome.
