A bus company has unveiled its £1 million headquarters.

Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company's new building in Lewes Road, Brighton, features a blue curved exterior and includes a number of vibrantly coloured windows on the front and side of the building.

A spokeswoman for the bus company, said: "The idea behind the innovative blue building was to enliven one of Brighton's gateways, replacing the dismal derelict building that once stood there."

Special paint has also been used on the exterior to prevent it being defaced by graffiti as this area has been labelled a hotspot by the city council.

The building was designed by London architects Penson and built by North-East builders, Coupe Construction. It was completed on time.

Jack Coupe, of the company, said: "We have had around 40 men on site during the six month construction programme.

"It has been exciting working with Penson on such a futuristic building. We have been using our own team but drew in local labour for the finishing trades."

Neil Robinson, a project manager for Go Ahead, the parent company, said: "The building is very unusual in its design and has already attracted a lot of attention."
