Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Heather have rejected claims of difficulties in their marriage.

Heather Mills McCartney's spokeswoman, Anya Noakes, dismissed rumours of marital problems as "rubbish".

She said Sir Paul, 63, was living at the couple's farm in Peasmarsh, near Rye, and working in London, while Ms Mills McCartney, 38, recovered from surgery with their two-year-old daughter Beatrice at their seafront home in Hove.

She said: "Heather had a revision amputation operation which involves her being in a wheelchair and on crutches.

She had the operation in America and Paul was with her throughout.

"About a week ago we found out a newspaper had hired paparazzi to get a picture of her in a wheelchair so she decided to keep a low profile.

"Paul has been fully supportive."

Asked if the couple were having problems, she said: "I'm not even going to answer that. It's just rubbish."

Ms Mills McCartney told another paper: "We have only just got back together from LA where Paul was recording and I had my operation. We haven't been apart until these last couple of days when I have had to hide.

"Of course we are together. It is hilarious."
