Micky Adams has praised the work of Albion striker Craig Davies at Port Vale.

But the former Seagulls manager admits he could be priced out of making the loan deal more permanent.

Davies started 22 games in Vale’s unsuccessful push for a League Two play-off berth, scoring seven goals.

He is now back at Albion, where he remains under contract for another season but is not expected to figure in Gus Poyet’s first-team plans.

Adams said: “He did fine for us. He scored a few goals and played really well but he has gone back now.”

Asked if he was keen to make a move for the man he initially signed for Albion from Oldham, Adams said: “I couldn’t afford him.”

Adams has ruled out a move for his former Albion keeper Michel Kuipers.

Another ex-Seagulls boss, Russell Slade, says it is too early to say whether he will make a move for former players such as Kuipers, Dean Cox or Adam Virgo.
