Americans seem to have the upper hand when it comes to an effortlessly cool way of doing things. Real Estate are no exception but they also have the songs to warrant looking every bit as gutter-indie as their music.

Introduced by XFM's John Kennedy as hailing all the way from New Jersey they started as they meant to go on – meandering down avenues lined with almost tree-like guitar sounds.

The band floated through renditions of Basement and Fake Blues as if on a boat in the middle of a lake, bordered this time by weeping willows. They wear guitar reverb like clothes and their songs would seem naked without it.

Despite only having released one album they sounded well-seasoned and could become an update of Pavement without the friction, while Martin Courtney holds a vocal similarity to Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol.

They included a brand new song that sounded as glassy in reality as it could on record and, even with unfamiliar material, could give any band a lesson in how to stay relaxed yet passionate about the music. For the moment, Real Estate seem at peace with themselves.
